To the best and most healthy teas
I am a huge tea drinker. I used to be a huge coffee drinker but I gave that up over 35 years ago. I switched to tea and have never regretted it. Nothing soothes me more than a wonderful warm cup of healthy tea. There is no other beverage in the world more popular. And few things are more relaxing then enjoying a good cup of tea while knowing there are so many health benefits.

Some of the benefits touted by a number of teas are reduced risk of various diseases as well as lowering cholesterol and improving mental focus. It’s unfortunate that these benefits do not always outweigh the harmful chemicals that can be found in many tea brands and even in many tea bags. And “organic” does not always mean its free from it either because other countries have different standards than the US for their organic products.

Benefits of a Few Popular Teas
Green tea is probably the best known for a wide variety of benefits because it’s loaded with antioxidants and nutrients. And it’s rich in polyphenols that have effects like reducing inflammation.
Green Tea contains a lot of EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate) which has been studied and found to be helpful with various disease. There are also small amounts of minerals found in Green tea which is just one more plus.
While most green tea does contain caffeine, it’s not nearly as much as coffee. However, drinking green tea in the morning or early in the day can be beneficial.
NOTE: Teas with caffeine include Green, Black and White teas.
Green tea also has the amino acid L-theanine which is part of the reason it can help to reduce stress. And, it is said that L-theanine combined with the caffeine can improve memory. Plus – The catechins in green tea may inhibit the growth of bacteria and some viruses, thus lowering the risk of infection.

The best known, of course, is reducing stress and inducing calm. On top of the calming affects it is also said to possess anti-spasmodic, antibacterial and anti-coagulant properties. But there’s more. It is believed to combat insomnia, fight migraine headaches, aid in relaxing the digestive system, help with diarrhea, aid with stomach and menstrual cramps and help with nausea.

One of the most toxic chemicals has been Endosulfan. This pesticide has been found to cause poisoning and sometimes even fatal. Another one was Monocrotophos. Also very toxic. This one has been banned in the US along with several other countries.
There have been some tea bags that are treated with a plastic that is meant to keep the tea bag from breaking. It is called epichlorahydrin. This can break down in water, thus, being released into the drink.
Rather than dwelling on those with a lot of un-healthy things — lets take a look at some of the safest organic teas.

I know I really should drink more tea. I love it, but it just doesn’t wake up like coffee does!

I love tea! Hardly ever drink coffee anymore and if I do, it’s decaf. I’ve also had almost all of the tea brands you listed, and I really like Golden Moon as well. I have to admit, though, I’m a bit lazy and prefer tea already in bags. I’ve never had turmeric tea but have taken it in pill form, found it incredibly helpful when I had an autoimmune flare a few years ago. Its anti-inflammatory properties are amazing!

I have used the Traditional Medicinals tea for years now! Especially when sore throat season hits. I drink a lot of English tea just in general but boy does it stain my teeth! Any good remedies for that???

The darker teas (like black teas) are the biggest culprits for staining.
