None of us can escape the process
One way to deal with getting older is to put the process into perspective. What’s the alternative to aging? What happens if you don’t get older? Well, you know the answer to that. Therefore, keeping that in mind, you can deal with getting older by staying as healthy as possible – emotionally, mentally, and physically.

Lets talk about a few ideas to help us thru the process.
⦁ Eat Right – One of the most important things we can do for our self is to eat a healthy diet. “We are what we eat” still holds true. No one will feel good about themselves if they mostly eat a poor diet. Make a habit of the 80/20 idea. Eating healthy 80% of the time. This is not so hard and the benefits are great.
⦁ Keep Moving – The human body was made to stay in motion. And as they say, “a body in motion stays in motion.” If you want to be able to keep doing the things you do now, you must do at least 150 minutes a week of moderate to high-intensity exercise. Brisk walking, biking, aerobics, and swimming are all good choices.
I am 69 years old and like many, I have my share of painful joints, aches and pains. One of the best exercises I have found is on a Recumbent Bike. It is the only piece of exercise equipment I have ever used and continue to do so several times a week for over 8 months now. You may like my article on
⦁ Stay Hydrated – It goes without saying: Water is the most important beverage. Normal, filtered tap water is an excellent choice. Most people need an average of 64 ounces of water a day.
⦁ Prevention is Key – Many diseases can be prevented or their severity lessened by doing all we can to prevent it in the first place. We can do that with a healthy diet, sensible exercise program and plenty of clean, filtered water. Oh.. and don’t forget our vitamins and minerals.
⦁ Moisturize – As you age, your body loses the ability to produce as much moisture as it did before. We want to keep our skin soft and supple. Try to find quality lotion, with as few additives as possible. Coconut oil is a great choice. I like to mix a few drops of liquid Vitamin C and E with coconut oil. It is a wonderful lotion and I use it regularly.
⦁ Read More – Studies show that people who read more are happier, kinder, more informed people – even if they read fiction. Read what you love and read every single day. It also helps keep our eyes healthy as long as we read under good light.
⦁ Play Games – Games for the body and mind keep you sharp and on your toes. Do your morning crossword puzzle in the paper. Try some of the online games to help improve your memory. I try to play a couple everyday. My favorite is Mahjong.amzn_assoc_tracking_id = “onlytoday02-20”; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = “manual”; amzn_assoc_ad_type = “smart”; amzn_assoc_marketplace = “amazon”; amzn_assoc_region = “US”; amzn_assoc_design = “enhanced_links”; amzn_assoc_asins = “1646116097”; amzn_assoc_placement = “adunit”; amzn_assoc_linkid = “1a681dc557e7a9b2381c8af154548c98”; amzn_assoc_tracking_id = “onlytoday02-20”; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = “manual”; amzn_assoc_ad_type = “smart”; amzn_assoc_marketplace = “amazon”; amzn_assoc_region = “US”; amzn_assoc_design = “enhanced_links”; amzn_assoc_asins = “0761168257”; amzn_assoc_placement = “adunit”; amzn_assoc_linkid = “9e863c8b8519753178a5af6d839f2eeb”;
⦁ Be Social – Make time for your family and your friends. Social activity is very important, especially as we age. Having community connections and friends you can not only call on but also help, makes you feel good about your life and yourself.
⦁ Keep Learning – Take a class or join a workshop so that you can keep learning new things throughout your life. ⦁ The National Resource Center for Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes can give you information about inexpensive classes and community learning activities for all ages.
⦁ Practice Gratitude – Everyone is going to get older. When you think about the alternative – you realize how important it is to be thankful for all your “wrinkles, sags, bags and gray hair.” We can find something to be grateful for everyday if we choose to look for it. Maybe more than one something.
